Pocket Wreath Paperclip

Christmas is coming and the
geese are getting fat.
Here’s a penny project for
the old man’s hat.
You don't need to worry, and you don't need to fret.
The more you give at Christmastime, the more you get.
So I am making a ton to
give away.
Actually I am giving them all
to my mother,
who is 85 years young and
still working full time at a health facility in Florida.
She simply loves giving
away little baubles and trinkets and trifles to all the patrons.
It makes her happy, and I
think it keeps her young.
So this will be the little
Christmas gift that she can put in her treat-basket.
This is a super easy pattern.
One complete Wreath takes less than 10 minutes.
It’s a great Shirt Pocket Holiday Decoration.
It would make a nice addition to a Christmas Book.
Or you could clip it to your Tree.
Maybe you could unwind part of the paperclip and use it as a
plant poke.
If you find other uses for it, I’d love to hear.

Materials:
3.5 mm / E hook
~ 4 ½ to 5 yds of WW (I used Red Heart)
Large
Paperclip (I used the Plastic covered kind: 80 for $1 at the Dollar Store)
Yarn Needle
to weave in.
Gauge is not crucial.
Size: Wreath = ~ 2 ¼” (5.7cm)
Note: If
you work over the beg yarn-end, you will not need to weave it in later.
At the end
of the first Rnd, pull the yarn-end snug to form a nice circle.
Also, you
may need to push the sc’s snug along the circle ring to fit them all in.
Rnd 1: Ch 9, Join
with a ss to the first sc to form a ring.
Ch 1.
Hold the top of the paperclip behind the joined st.
Insert the
hook through the ring and then through the top of the paperclip (see middle pic
below).
Pull up a
loop, YO and complete a Sc. Make one
more Sc through the ring and clip.
Then continue around the ring only with 16 more Sc.
Join with a ss to first sc.
Turn, and Ch 1.
(2 sc connecting the paperclip + 16 sc around ring = total of
18 sc)
Rnd 2: Sc in BLO of each st around. Join. Turn, and Ch 1. (18)
Rnd 3: Sc in BLO of the first sc.
(Ch 2, Sc) in BLO of each st around.
Ch 1,
and join to the first sc. (The final
ch-1 produces a more even finish.)
FO with ~ 6” (~15cm) to weave in
and anchor the clip.
Pull the
Paperclip down across the back.
Make sure
it is vertical with the circle-wreath.
Then anchor
it with one stitch on each side near Rnd 1.
If you
stitch further down the paperclip, you will lose some of the paperclip
holding-capacity.
Finish: Pull a contrasting color yarn through the bottom or top and tie a bow.
If you
prefer you could use a tiny ribbon.
